so the whole of this painting sucks really, really bad or i'd suck it up and show it. however, i named the painting after this one tiny part that i just love. i keep telling myself i'll repaint it someday, but i never do. i had been calling it 'enraged painting' since i did it on one of those nights you could just kill a certain someone. however now that my life has changed i've changed the name to what i hope the painting will come to represent soon... "trapped from flight". of course the red is symbolic in its typical nature.
ok this is kind of dumb. i had sketched this painting idea over a year ago and really wanted to see it in paint. i don't paint things i drew very well so this was somewhat of a challenge for me. it was supposed to be very symbolic while an expirement with complimentary and contrasting colors. i enjoyed the theoretical part of how and where things should change. some text is trapped, some chaotic. i don't think it came out saying it had a hidden message like i had hoped. but oh well, as i said before, for me it's more a thought expirement.
hoping this is okay to post. you never know these days where the line between art and unacceptable drawings fall. however this is from life drawing, not my best but i enjoyed the fuzzy hat she's always wear. made the composition more fun.

so this is some graphic stuff i did way before i thought about doing graphic design for a profession. i enjoyed playing with effects and learning how i could manipulate an image. it opened my eyes to looking at something past its face value.
random part of a larger display i did for drawing one. there are four boards, each a collage spelling out the word 'love'. elementary but for sentimental reasons i like it.
this is a painting a fellow friend in the graphic program and i did. there were a couple splatters from several other individuals, but mainly the work of two. i'm not sure she wants to be attached to our chaos publicly so i'll leave her anonymous. but incase you couldn't tell i am a huge fan of jackson polluck. still looking for a guy who would let me name my son that, lol. anyway, i enjoy his control and relate to his hard life. i admire his work because i feel that there is so much passion in it that you can almost feel him in his paintings.
i am doing wedding invitations and mailers for the reception of my sister's wedding. unfortunately she doesn't know when or where they are taking place yet. being quite picky but not a designer herself she keeps sending me a thousand samples for what she likes. if anyone has any experience or suggestions please let me know. i could really use a first step.thanks
sorry if my posts seem informal. i tend to type as i think. i love this logo. they almost never use the full logo, however. this image was made just for their website. on their sign, menu, accessories in their restaurant they just use the outlined "M." and the text is centered below it. the logo is from a local tavern, tucked away in a small shopping center near vinings. i admire the logo so much not merely because of its aesthetics, but because it was done by the owner who has very little design experience. i love a restaurant that pays enough attention to how things are presented or served. and the logo falls nothing short of the experience. their lighting, restraint on decoration (only black and white photos) is such a needed change from the cookie-cutter restaurants around town. well, now this sounds like an advertisement. let me rephrase... the logo mostly caught my attention since i am quite accustomed to ripping apart the menu designs and such in my area. the way things are all centered, with no attention payed to punctuation or a heirarchy kills me. but when i started complaining about the menu here i noticed that they centered the M over Marlow's Tavern and had the "." hanging off-center to the right. finally someone who may have taken a type class.
now i've never heard of this company. it's called apple newton. but i love the playful style of the lightbulb and how they suggest that it is on and brilliant. i can also see some resemblance of an A and an N. it is so simple, but gets the point across. it is not rigid or stiff. it shows restraint on color and detail, but still seems to include enough information to be a recognizable logo. i enjoy logos that "impress" or logos that 'steal' letters from the alphabet, as McDonald's and M&M's stole the M. it speaks volumes when just a character reminds consumers of your company.
i don't love this logo, but the way they trapped in negative space to form an arrow in the EX was brilliant. i have many times pointed this out to people and a good number had never noticed. but those who did can't help but see it all the time and love to brag about how they were so clever to see it. it is my belief that people like to find things in imagery that they didn't know were there or to discover elements that are not obvious. i also like that they change the colors of the EX on different trucks - resembling what type of deliveries they are carrying. it's those minute details that get me.
this logo is just clever on so many levels. the fact that the 'abstract' shapes form 4 s's was a great start. but the fact that it can read as "sun" in all four directions as well was purely a great design discovery. i also like that the logo forms a diamond instead of merely a square. it really offsets the fact that the logo spells out "sun", but makes it a little harder to see at first. i think that, in this case, that is a good thing. i admit that the text isn't nearly as interesting, but it's not horrible by any means.
ok, boring, i know. but it's a target. and it's called Target. how can the logo be more perfect for the company. they show restraint by making only two rings and the bullseye. i like the color choice and that it is a single color, always. i'm probably a little partial to it too since i enjoy the layouts for their stores. their design team seems to keep up with modern times and i have never seen them step too far. one of my biggest pet peeves is a logo that has nothing to do with the company's name, target audience, or their type of business.
